Royal Russia

St Petersburg 07/10/05

This is a long slideshow - but oh, so amazing! Along the way, you will see the intensely gorgeous Catherine Palace - which began in 1717 by Catherine I, then torn down and rebuilt by her granddaughter Empress Elizabeth in the then current Roccoco style. Although associated with Catherine The Great, she actually didn't care for the "whipped cream" oppulence of the palace; the Yusupov Palace - where Rasputin was murdered, which presaged the fall of the Russian Empire; St. Isaac's Cathedral which took 40 years to complete, from 1818-1858.
