Megan Fox and the LBD

We never cease to be amazed by the inconsequential things that cause firestorms of interest on the Web. Wednesday it was Carrie Prejean and her surrendered Miss California crown; the day before it was Megan Fox and her little black dress (LBD).

Oh, we get Fox, the co-star of the 2007 flick "Transformers" and its sequel, which is set for worldwide release in two weeks. She's young, hot, sultry ... vacuous ... and she's currently on tour in Asia with her co-star, Shia LaBeouf, to promote the upcoming movie, which is why she pinned the needle on the interest meter.

In Tokyo on Monday, Fox scorched the red carpet in a royal purple gown that was slit halfway to heaven up one side. But she topped herself in Seoul on Tuesday, wearing a LBD with transparent panels that was stylish, not cheap.

It also didn't seem to justify the intense interest it received. It was a nice dress, all right, but the gown she wore in Tokyo was more risqué. Nor was it particularly revealing; you can see plenty more of her with a simple Google search, if that's your fancy.

And if you want sizzling hot, what's wrong with "90210" and "Nip/Tuck" actress AnnaLynne McCord, who's only a year younger but rocks the red carpet just as hard?

So the mystery remains: Why Megan Fox? Why does her mere appearance in a LBD jam bandwidth around the world? It can't be for the brilliant thespian career revealed in this statement about her Transformers director, Michael Bay:

"His main note to me is just to look hot; so I try my best."

Apparently it's working.
